Jodie Holmes

Every story begins somewhere - this one just began as she was born. Jodie Holmes was born May 10th - the second half of a pair of twins. See; both of Jodie’s parents were considered to be psychically gifted and their powers were studied by the DPA. These powers were passed onto Jodie - however, Jodie had another gift. It was discovered that her brother; Aiden, was stillborn - but he wasn’t quite as dead as one would think. Aiden’s soul connected to Jodie’s in the womb - leaving him tethered to her. Jodie was adopted out so that she could be studied - with her father passing away previously, and her mother being forced into a medically induced coma. It wasn’t until Jodie was much older that she would find out her real history - but let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Philip and Susan Holmes are given an opportunity - to adopt Jodie - they couldn’t pass it on, having just lost their newborn son. But eventually, trouble would arise in what they merely thought to be her imaginary friend, Aiden - who like any little boy, loves to cause mischief. Philip eventually forbids Jodie from leaving the house, backyard - or even making any friends. Despite his attitude towards Jodie, Susan tries to understand and connect with her daughter.

1998

One snowy winter day, after moping about the house - Jodie goes out to play in the yard - which isn’t much more fun. Eventually, with the help of her brother, she joins the kids out in the street in a snowball fight for some good old-fashioned fun. The fun doesn't last long. A little boy she was playing with tackles Jodie and begins to restrain her. Aiden protects his sister and begins to choke the little boy; allowing Jodie to get away - but not before the boy calls her a witch - a name that would follow her all her life. Philip comes out just to drag Jodie inside - confining her to her room. Philip believes Jodie to be evil, saying he never agreed to take a demon into his house. They try to get her help - but no one believes Aiden is real.

Until...

Jodie meets Nathan Dawkins, a man who works at the DPA studying abnormal phenomena; and he is the first person to believe that Aiden is more than an imaginary friend. While interviewing her Nathan asks if Aiden can show that he is around; Aiden does so by making the lights flicker and making things around the office move. Jodie is then instructed to draw Aiden - drawing a mass of scribbles connected to a stick figure - the stick figure being her. Jodie does not wish to be connected to Aiden anymore. As the interview goes forward Nathan notices the injuries all over Jodie’s arms; he wants to know if Aiden harmed her. Aiden wouldn’t hurt Jodie, and she tells him that even if he gets really mad he never hurts her. It’s the monsters at night that hurt Jodie.

For Nathan to properly determine the nature of Jodie’s powers and her connection to Aiden, she must stay for a few days to be studied and looked after. This is when Jodie first meets Cole, a man who would be the major father figure in her life. Jodie is left to get ready for bed - alone and scared in an unfamiliar place. She asks Aiden to tell her a story, and he does, by picking up a flashlight and making shadow puppets on the ceiling. Eventually, after dozing off, Jodie awakens - the monsters attack her once more as she screams for mercy. Aiden immediately springs into action - using his connection to the other side to deter them from hurting his sister. Nathan and Cole barge in after the door is finally freed from the grasp of the evil forces, and they comfort her. Jodie does not want to lose Aiden anymore.

After the continued attacks from the monsters at night, and the fear of Aiden committing acts of violence - Susan and Philip drop off Jodie at the lab one last time. They decided it would be better for everyone involved if they leave Jodie to be studied by Nathan and Cole. Susan is grief-stricken, she truly does love Jodie. Philip however is dismissive and simply wants to rid his hands of her and move on. This is to be her home for the next ten years.

One of the first official experiments they perform with Jodie and Aiden is a simple card reading test. A Volunteer in another room picks up a card and they must communicate with Nathan what card it is. Eventually, Aiden gets rowdy and terrifies the volunteer - Jodie begs Aiden to stop, even attempting to control him. This results in Jodie sobbing and being left with a nose bleed from her failed attempt to fix the situation.

1999

Jodie is now 9 years old, growing accustomed to living in the lab and attending school with the other kids on base. One late night she grows tired of sitting around watching tv and asks to go to bed. It is way past her bedtime. Nathan realizes this and asks her to go get the new book he got for her - and that once he’s done he’ll read it to her for a bedtime story. While she goes to retrieve the book Jodie encounters two figures - a mother and daughter - both having bloody head injuries. Despite being frightened Jodie grabs the book and returns to Nathan and Cole, and before she has the chance to tell them what she had just seen; the phone rings. Nathan answers it - his Wife and Daughter had been killed in a drunk driving accident.

A few days pass by when one night Jodie can’t sleep, seeing the figment of that girl she had seen while getting that book. Jodie decides to follow the figure out of her room - it leads her to Nathan's office. Nathan hasn’t left his office in three days - utterly devastated over the accident, not even putting effort in to shave the stubble off his face. Jodie channels the spirits of his fallen family members in an attempt to offer him peace of mind - they tell him that they died instantly and that there was no suffering. This is a turning point in Nathan’s research.

Five years pass.

2004

Jodie is now 14 years old and getting dropped off at a birthday party - even though she doesn’t know anyone there. All of the kids are older than her so Jodie must try her hardest to fit in with the rest. When the parental supervision leaves, the partygoers bring out alcohol, weed, and they blast the music. No matter what she does - from the music choice, dancing with a boy, or even if she joins in on drinking and smoking - the kids make fun of her. It’s then time for the presents and when the birthday girl opens the gift from Jodie - A Book of Poems by Edgar Allen Poe - they completely turn on her. They burn her with their cigarettes and lock her in the cupboard under the staircase. Here Jodie and Aiden have a choice, they can leave peacefully, or get revenge. If revenge is chosen Aiden can scare and harm them - knocking them out or even setting fire to the house. But no matter what - Jodie will leave upset.

2006

A 16-year-old Jodie gets into an argument with Cole and Nathan as they have forbidden her from having a night out with her friends. Depending on what happened at the party when she was 14, Jodie can be wearing Punk attire - or something a little more conservative. Instead of just accepting her fate, Aiden possesses Cole to escort her out of the facility by sneaking past security with him. The body of Cole drives her near where she needs to be - but they make sure that Cole is left in a safe place before abandoning him. Jodie arrives at the bar with no friends in sight; she decides to wait it out, ordering a lemonade while she bides her time. It can play out two ways from here - Jodie can drink her lemonade and leave. But if she chooses to play pool - two men at the bar will come and play with her, whether she likes it or not. As the one starts getting too close for comfort Jodie will try and stand up for herself - spitting in his face, slapping him, trying to push him away. These attempts only anger him. The man will slam her on the pool table and attempt to assault her with the other men helping him. Aiden must hold them off to protect Jodie, whether it be by scaring them or killing them, he does whatever he needs in order to save her. Eventually, Nathan and Cole come to the rescue, finding a newly traumatized Jodie sobbing on the pool table.

2007

Jodie is awakened in the middle of the night by Nathan - something horrible and unprecedented has happened. A passage to the Infraworld has been opened by another research team, and Jodie is the only one they can think of who may be able to close it down and stop the spread. The two of them arrive at the other research facility - they had already tried sending down teams to stop the condenser but they never returned. Despite Cole’s protests and Nathan telling her she can go home if she wants, Jodie knows this may be something that only she can do. While navigating the building Jodie encounters the dead bodies of the employees that worked there - as well as firemen and police officers who attempted to rescue the workers. Along with the bodies, Jodie comes face to face with the entities that haunted her childhood, the monsters that plagued her at night. The two of these things work together to fight against Jodie as she wades through the terror. With the help of Aiden - Jodie shuts down the condenser and makes it out alive. She collapses in Nathan’s arms. Jodie warns him to never let them build another portal. It'll destroy everything.

2008

A music box, a photo, and a coin - Jodie’s channeling abilities are being put to the test, only one of these items holds the memories desired. As Jodie opens the box she witnesses the memory of a little girl receiving it as a gift - Nathan’s daughter. As she tells Nathan about what she saw they are interrupted by a phone call from a man named Ryan Clayton. It’s not long until she leaves the testing room; only to find out she is being forced into a military training program - the parents she hasn't seen in ten years already agreed to it for her. Despite her protests and Aiden’s attempt to intervene, she must go pack her things for camp. Only the essentials - A photo of Jodie and her parents that you can rip into shreds, a picture of Cole and Nathan that you can leave behind, the first photo of Aiden that Jodie drew for Nathan, her old friend Bunny Gruff, clothes, and toiletries. As Jodie leaves her room the three of them say goodbye, a new chapter begins.

From 2008 to 2010 her life consists purely of CIA training - things like physical and intellectual training, fighting, handling a gun, stealth, and even training for Aiden. Jodie must finish the training with one final test, sneaking her way past her fellow operatives to capture a flag successfully, and unharmed. When Jodie grabs the flag she is confronted by Ryan holding a gun to her head, teasing her by saying if this were real she’d already be dead. Jodie snaps back by saying to him that if it were real, he wouldn't be able to open his mouth. Little did Ryan know that Aiden has possessed an operative and is aiming a rifle at Ryan’s head. Welcome to the CIA - Jodie is now a fully-fledged agent, the two men who trained her give their congratulations.

2010

Jodie is given her first assignment as an agent, she must retrieve documents with vital information on them. Dressed all up in red - she goes to the restroom to start her mission while Ryan goes to mingle with the crowd. Jodie settles in a bathroom stall, this mission can only be completed with the help of Aiden. There are many ways this can be conducted, whether it be by possessing someone, hacking into the safe, or causing some mayhem; Aiden has to find a way to not alert the guards that information is being stolen. When Aiden gets to the documents he must stay still so that Jodie can copy the info on her notepad. Even though Aiden is a spirit, he is still tethered to Jodie and as he strays further away it only causes her more pain - resulting in a nosebleed. Eventually, a male guard knocks on the bathroom stall, but luckily before he even gets the chance to confront her - he is interrupted by a female waitress. This is a fellow agent to Jodie; she throws the man out of the restroom and collects the notes of Jodie’s that were scattered on the floor - apologizing for not being able to help her any further. Jodie washes the blood from her face and catches up with Ryan - the two of them leave immediately.
